Safety & Community Support

🛡️ Community Resilience Project

As a community that has experienced significant natural disasters—specifically the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires—Steels Creek is committed to local connection and proactive disaster preparation.

The Steels Creek Community Resilience Project partners with local organizations and municipal agencies to help residents prepare for, adapt to, and recover from emergencies such as bushfires, floods, storms, and power outages.

SCCC Safe Haven Capabilities

In the event of severe weather or power outages, the Steels Creek Community Centre is equipped with solar panels, a large battery storage system, and backup generator capabilities. It is designed to act as a community gathering space and charging hub during local grid disruptions.

🔥 Bushfire Planning & Safety

Steels Creek is located in a high bushfire risk zone. We recommend every household maintains a current written Bushfire Survival Plan:

Prepare your Property: Clear gutters, prune branches, clear grass, and maintain defensible space around your home.

Have an Emergency Kit: Pack water, non-perishable foods, wool blankets, a battery-operated radio, torches, passports/documents, and medications.

Know your Trigger to Leave: On Catastrophic fire rating days, leaving early in the morning (or the night before) is the safest option. Do not wait to see smoke.

❤️ Local Support & Well-being

Our community thrives on helping each other. SCCC coordinates regular support contacts and social meetups to promote mental health, community connection, and neighbor assistance.
